And What If Someone Stops You (Adelaide)
2022
paper mache, wood, foam, acrylic paint, pickaxes
Adelaide is a representation of the constant fear that something will stop me from ever reaching an artistic career due to factors outside of my control. Throughout the past few years I’ve had many varying things occur that have discouraged me or prevented me from truly being able to put my work out there. Originally it’s intent was that Adelaide was the one trying to stop me, but me having seen her in the middle of her creeping, shows she’s been caught. However, having Adelaide in a gallery very much changed the idea it conveyed. By having the audience view her in a gallery, not only did it prove the fear wrong, it also flips the narrative back on her. In this case it hasn’t been me who has been stopped, but Adelaide.
